The challenge
Overcoming lending scalability limits
Solaris was built from the ground up to be different. In order to run their modular core banking system more efficiently, Solaris needed to find a solution to help serve as the customer account subledger system for their lending business.
Scalability was limited as only one loan could be created at a single point in time, and the total amount of loans that could be generated per day was restricted. Also their legacy provider didn’t support horizontal scaling, meaning it was impossible to add more instances to the system and distribute the load between them.

The solution
Cloud-native transformation with Mambu
To support its vision of banking in the cloud, Solaris selected Mambu’s API-enabled, cloud-native core banking platform, deployed on Amazon Web Services (AWS). This seamless integration allowed Solaris to build a scalable, flexible, and modular banking infrastructure.
Unlike traditional core banking providers that offer rigid, highly integrated solutions, Mambu provided a loan subledger system with unmatched configurability and scalability.
Through multiple workshops, Solaris saw firsthand Mambu’s solution-driven approach, communication efficiency, and speed of integration, making it the ideal partner for their long-term growth.
The result
Achieving cloud-first banking at scale
Following a quick and smooth four month implementation in 2020, Solaris was able to create more compelling products for their customers, that in turn improve the banking experience for consumers in Germany.
Today, Mambu supports Solaris in managing its existing loan portfolio, with minimal operational effort required. This is made possible by Mambu’s API-first architecture, combined with a high degree of automation on Solaris’s side, particularly in the way Mambu integrates with Solaris’s internal core banking and transaction system, Kerna.
Solaris continues to own and operate its transaction engine and end-to-end onboarding process in-house—including data collection, credit assessment, KYC, QES, and pricing. Mambu’s role remains focused on loan servicing, giving Solaris the flexibility and control it needs while scaling efficiently.
By fully migrating to the cloud, Solaris has built a scalable,modular and API-driven banking infrastructure, earning industry recognition. In 2022, CELENT awarded Solaris the Model Bank Award for Core in the Cloud, highlighting its leadership in cloud-native banking transformation.
