Fighting Fin & Cyber Crime
On this episode
Meaghan sits down with three pioneers who are battling criminals in cyberspace. While some say fighting cybercrime is a lost cause, our guests say differently. In this episode, we speak with Joël Winteregg, Co-Founder and CEO of NetGuardians, a former ethical hacker, Katerina Tasiopoulou, Business Development Manager at Hack The Box, and Rob Leslie, Founder and CEO of Sedicii. They shed light on why they believe in the battle against fin and cyber crime, how their respective initiatives are making a positive impact, and new technologies to fight the "bad guys". In addition to a few cool stories about the former days of ethical hacking, they share many examples and anecdotes about past experiences and what the future may hold.
As NetGuardians Co-Founder & CEO, Joël both guides innovation of NetGuardians core solutions and drives business development, with a focus on Europe and Africa. He has headed the company since 2007, when he co-founded it with Raffael Maio. His business intuition is matched by technical talent – it was Joël’s own research that led to the prototype for the company’s intelligent behavioral analysis software. As well as almost 10 years as an entrepreneurial business leader, Joël has solid experience in R&D and as a software engineer, including as a security specialist with the Institute for Information and Communication Technologies.
Prior to her current role as Business Development Manager at Hack the Box, Kat worked as a penetration tester and SOC Analyst, mitigating attack vectors on new wireless airplane components, using advanced cryptographic techniques. She then moved into the incident response realm, responding to security incidents globally and helped organisations contain and recover from cyber attacks. She has won the BCS Young IT Professional of the Year Award 2018, the Rising Star Award 2019 sponsored by the Sunday Times and the FDM EveryWoman Rising Star Award 2020. She is a qualified programmer in a variety of languages, having developed games, websites, apps and robots.
Rob is the Founder and CEO of Sedicii. Founded in 2013, Sediccii has won over 20 technology and innovations awards to date including the BBVA Open Innovation “Fintech for Future” Award. Sedicii has developed and patented Privacy Enhancing Technologies (PETs) to help people and businesses build secure data collaborations without compromising confidentiality or privacy. Rob is a World Economic Forum Technology Pioneer for his work on PET’s and has spoken at Davos on cybersecurity, digital identity and other technology issues affecting the world’s economies.
